I had my first encounter with a negative scanner today.
such a painful and slow process.
the upside is i'll be able to get copies of all the film i shot last year that didn't go to print. it also answered a question about film vs digital resolutions.
film scanners do about 4000ppi at 100% size when scanning. that's 5669x3780 pixels, or, if my calculations are right, about 21mp.
so, if I want a digital camera that will give me film resolution, that's the golden mark to aim for.
currently that's the canon eos 5d mkII. the main competitor for that is the nikon d700, but it's "only" 12.1mp. i've heard nothing but glowing praise for the d700, and a few grumblings about the 5d. it's hard to know which way to move. i can wait a while longer though.
i know i want to print, big.
in other news - jebus my back and chest are sore. can't breathe deeply at the moment
