The dark shape at the bottom is a necessity for catching the eye from a distance, and providing a high contrast area without edge distraction for the words within. While it's parody / satire, I'm actually approaching this as a genuine propaganda poster - so the cog has to be there, it's the iconic brand of the group.

While I want to capture the feel of the original, I don't want to be making something that looks like it was made in the 1930s/40s (as is I don't want to be making factory distressed jeans
I'll have a bit of a play and see if I can get the cog looking a little more analogue.
