A play on WW2 propaganda posters, created to coincide with the release of my third comic book.

that guy with the finger has always been a strong image. overall I like the whole thing except the dark cog shape at the bottom doesn't seem to fit in to my eyes. Even though I know you have that as a running theme through the books I think it's a little to strong here.

For reference, here's the image I'm playing off...

The dark shape at the bottom is a necessity for catching the eye from a distance, and providing a high contrast area without edge distraction for the words within. While it's parody / satire, I'm actually approaching this as a genuine propaganda poster - so the cog has to be there, it's the iconic brand of the group.

I understand the reference and I'd still like to see some kind of texture thrown over it to age it a little. But Hey, you're the teacher :p

so is it that you think the edge is too sharp, or that the colour gradient is too neat, or both?

While I want to capture the feel of the original, I don't want to be making something that looks like it was made in the 1930s/40s (as is I don't want to be making factory distressed jeans :) )

I'll have a bit of a play and see if I can get the cog looking a little more analogue.

yeah, the line of it is to crisp. Perhaps tone it down to a very dark grey/gradient rather than a black one.

I've added a 2px wide texture stroke to it in multiply mode, so only the black in the texture shows, so it makes the edge look less perfect - kindof matches the linework of the character art. Also put a texture in behind the purple at the bottom, so that should stop it looking too clean.

Very nicely done!
I think you've captured the essence of old propaganda posters, yet may it current to the world of your comics.

I like giving the finger to the state.

Top stuff man. =)
